Outdoor Digital Signage
There are lots of challenges when implementing outdoor digital signage but despite this more and more digital screens are being built outside to take advantage of their greater audience numbers these outside digital advertising screens can generate. While the most obvious obstacle for carrying a commercial grade LCD display outside is shielding it from the weather, and specifically rainfall, the problems associated with the sun can be equally as hard to overcome. The issue with the sun and outdoor digital signage is the direct sunlight will frequently make the screen unreadable. Not only can sun cause warmth (you must know what that’s like when you try and watch the TV at home during the summertime where very often you are forced to shut the curtain to watch the display obviously ) but even if there’s absolutely no warmth in bright sunlight the display will appear dim and hard to see. But there are ways to ensure the display is as easy as possible when taken outdoors:
Assuming you’ve the brightest kind of display possible will go along way to making sure that the display is readable. The brightness of LCD screens is measured in nits (aka candela per square metre). The minimum display brightness for any outside LCD display should be 800 nits but LCD using 1000+ nits can be found and should be taken into account when seeking to get into outdoor digital signage. It should also be noted that in general commercial screens have greater nit values and are better suited for outdoor signage screens.
Anti-glare technologies Optical bondng, anti-reflective glass and tinting are just some options. Regrettably, whichever way you go on that there probably will be some drop-off in brightness. Direct sunlight can cause more problems than simply glare also. Display burn can grow whether the sun is constantly on it either the outside digital display should be turned off from the sun another remedy to protect against this display burn should be looked at like cooling the display itself.
A great deal of content that works well in indoor places doesn’t respond well to be taken outdoors. Use colors and designs that are more prominent in outdoor places. There is frequently a great deal of trial and error involved in this but assess what works and what doesn’t and you need to soon develop a flare for designing material that’s suitable for outdoor digital signage.
