Mass Visual Trespass lights up Edinburgh Castle

Christian Aid has staged its fourth Mass Visual Trespass, lighting up the iconic Edinburgh Castle walls with your climate justice messages.

Kathy Galloway, head of Christian Aid Scotland, urged Scots doing their Christmas shopping to stop and consider the devastating effect that climate change is having on people living in the developing world.

‘They have contributed very little to global warming and yet are bearing the brunt of unpredictable weather patterns, droughts floods and tropical storms,’ she said.

She also urged Scots to join The Wave, Scotland's biggest ever demonstration in support of action on climate change, in Glasgow on Saturday, 5 December.

The projection featured Christian Aid supporters calling on Gordon Brown and other world leaders to work for a fair deal in Copenhagen and not hold back the talks.

The clock is ticking, and while we wait for the world’s richest countries to agree a deal, 300,000 people are dying every year in poor countries because of climate change.

So we need you more than ever to put pressure where it’s needed and show your support for a fair deal to Gordon Brown.

Why Edinburgh Castle?

Mass Visual Trespass No4 EdinburghKathy Galloway, head of Christian Aid Scotland, said after the trespass: ‘We’ve promised to project our supporters climate messages in places where they will get noticed.

‘Sometimes this means at a political or climate target – but sometimes it needs to be on a building which the public will recognise and stop to think why there is a message on it.

‘Scotland played a key role in the industrial revolution, now we have a moral responsibility to lead the climate change revolution.

‘We need Gordon Brown and the UK government, along with other developed nations, to commit the necessary financial support and resources, including technology transfers, to enable developing countries to reduce emissions, develop in a low carbon way and adapt to climate change.

‘At this crucial time, the more people who get involved, the more our politicians will take notice about the need for a fair deal in Copenhagen.’
