Christian Aid Scotland is the official agency of most of the Scottish churches for emergency aid and tackling global poverty. We support partner organisations who are working to end the injustice of poverty in 50 countries, through both long-term projects and emergency response.
At home
We’re one of Scotland’s largest voluntary organisations with:
• Thousands of individual supporters
• Over 600 volunteer groups
• Fundraising events including the Forth, Erskine and Tay Bridge Crosses and the legendary Edinburgh Book Sale
• Christian Aid Week raising over £2 million a year through door-to-door collections every May
Campaigning
Climate change is a threat to the developing world and so it is our current campaign focus. We believe global warming must be tackled if poor countries are to succeed in pulling themselves out of poverty.
We have lobbied the Scottish Parliament about its proposed Climate Bill in addition to lobbying Westminster politicians on the UK Climate Change Bill.
Young people
Young people are a vital force in Christian Aid Scotland’s efforts to bring about real change. Our volunteer teacher scheme takes development issues into schools. We work with young people in churches and universities.
In addition, music festivals like T in the Park are a means of reaching new audiences and recruiting young people to Christian Aid’s campaigns.
HIV Connections
HIV Connections is a ground-breaking peer education programme with the Scottish Government and the Church of Scotland. It increases awareness of HIV among young people in Scotland and Malawi.
In Malawi the Christian Health Association of Malawi, a Christian Aid partner organisation, trains young people to provide more home-based care and to encourage people living with HIV to speak out.
In Scotland Christian Aid trains young people in schools, churches and youth groups to raise awareness about HIV.
