London to Copenhagen Bike Ride

Congratulations to our amazing cyclists!

Our team of 28 completed the incredible 140-mile London to Copenhagen bike ride on Saturday lunchtime.

They arrived in Copenhagen in time to join the 100,000-strong crowd for the Global Day of Action.

And they are also on course to raise a breathtaking £50,000 for our partners' vital work.

Team Christian Aid, we salute you

Peter and Rowena Merson, from Bridgewater in Somerset, did the 140-mile ride on a tandem. 'We're elated. We got here,' said Peter, a vet in his 50s.

'It has been a terrific route for us, gently undulating. We have had huge fun on the tandem - the conditions have been perfect for hunting down the solo bikes in the group.'

Rowena, 59, said: 'We have both been involved in voluntary work which brings us into contact with the effects of climate change - famines, droughts and so on.

'Things are getting worse and it is partly because of our Western way of life. We need to do something about it.'

Methodist minister Andy Smith, 33, from Saltley, Birmingham said he undertook the journey as 'an act of confession'.

'I did the ride to acknowledge that for too long the Church has been complicit in climate change,' he said. 'We can no longer be silent. We are accountable to God.'
