Last October, Christian Aid Scotland volunteer Emma Boyd travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with 20 other gap-year volunteers to witness first-hand the impact that Christian Aid projects are having on the country.
An exhibition featuring photographs from Emma's trip was held in Glasgow in May 2009. Here are some of the photos, with commentary by Emma.
Alf is one of the volunteers who gives up his Saturdays to help clean up the sewage systems around his home in Ngiri-Ngiri, just south of the capital Kinshasa. Christian Aid partner RECIC - Reseau d'Education Civique au Congo - provides the equipment that enables them to clear the system so it drains more freely. Photo by Susan Barry.
